The simple truth of the matter is that TweetDeck is a must have for Twitter users. It allows you to tweet anything you want and stay on top of Tweets from friends, family, famous people, and so on. It allows you to do these things from a good looking and customizable interface. And last but not least, it allows you to do all these things for free. With millions of users from all over the world, there’s no denying that TweetDeck is a properly good Twitter client, one that you should definitely use on your machine.

TweetDeck started out as an Adobe AIR application. Its developer, Iain Dodsworth, releasedTweetDeck Adobe AIR to the public in the summer of 2008. Then in 2009 the developer released the iPhone version; and in 2010 the iPad and the Android versions were released. Next year, in the spring of 2011, TweetDeck was acquired by Twitter for £25 million. Twitter redesigned the app, changed it from an Adobe AIR application to a native application for Windows and Mac, and introduced a web version.

After installing the application on your PC or Mac, when you launch it for the first time, you will be invited to sign in with your TweetDeck account. If you don’t have one, you can very, very easily create one. After you log into your TweetDeck account, you will be invited to link to your Twitter and/or Facebook account. Yes, TweetDeck provides support for Twitter and Facebook.

By default, TweetDeck uses the dark theme and displays four columns on its interface – Timeline, Interactions, Messages, and Activity. From the Settings menu you can switch from the dark to the light theme. From the same menu you can change the size of the columns. And speaking about columns, you can remove the ones you don’t want and easily add more columns to the interface.

Here’s what you can expect to get from TweetDeck, from a functionality point of view: support for Twitter and Facebook, manage an unlimited amount of accounts, user friendly and customizable interface that allows you to arrange your feeds as you want, tweet and schedule tweets, create lists, powerful filters so you can focus on what’s important to you, get notification alerts for new tweets, keyboard shortcuts so you can easily access TweetDeck’s functionality, link shortening and picture upload.

TweetDeck is a free application.

Manage multiple accounts and easily stay on top of your Twitter feed with the popular and properly good application TweetDeck.

Pros

TweetDeck is available for multiple platforms. The interface is good looking and can be customized. Support for Twitter and Facebook is provided; manage as many accounts as you want. Tweet, schedule tweets, view tweets, filter tweets, create lists, and other useful features are provided. TweetDeck is a free application.

Cons

None that I could think of. Update TweetDeck for Windows has been discontinued. It no longer works! If you want a desktop application that offers similar functionality, go get TweetDuck.
